For juveniles we use modified rules:
MOTIVE:
We choose not to follow international standards of BJJ rules for juveniles because we want to increase the safety of the youngest performers and also make it easier for judges. The official rules allow chokes from age 4, they also have different rules in three stages, a set of rules for each age group according to the following: 4-12 years, 13-15 years and 16-17. years. We choose instead the following rules to make the sport safer, while giving judges an easier task.
SWEDISH JUVENILE RULES
(AGE IS BASED ON BIRTH YEAR) (< 16 år)
The following rules apply to young people until the age of 16 years. Junior classes are operating under the same rules as adult whitebelts. (IBJJF’s current regulations) In addition to the rules that are designed for adult whitebelts we have added the following prohibited acts for fighters under the age of 16.
- To pull the head while executing the triangel (ordinary triangel is allowed)
- Giljotin
- Leg locks (all kinds)
- Ezikiel (strangulation with the hand and the gi over the throat)
- When throwing, if a competitor lands on his/her head or twists his/her knees during the throw due to inadequate technique, the one performing the throw will be disqualified.
EXTRA:(< 10 år)
The following additions apply to kids until they are 10 years.
- Chokes (all kind of chokes)
COMMENT:
The rules apply to the class they compete in. If the coach and the organizer agreed to place a youth from another age in another age category the youth compete in the new class rules in force. Age counts in that year the kid turns that age.
Example 1: A 11-year-old girl is unusually light for its weight class, she transferred by agreement between the coach and organizer down to a group that is “ten years” in which she competes without chokes.
Example 2: A 14-year-old boy is unusually heavy for its weight class, he was transferred by agreement between the coach and organizer to a group of juniors 16-18 years and will compete with ‘full’ BJJ rules.
WEIGHT:
When you register the youth fighters it should be with the gi on. When you register you should state the exact weight including the entire gi. Then we will create fair weight classes for juniors to compete in.
